What exactly are dental implants?
Dental implants act as artificial roots that permanently replace your missing teeth. When you lose a tooth, an implant offers a strong, secure replacement that looks and feels completely natural. Your dentist places a small titanium post directly into your jawbone, where it heals and fuses with your natural bone over time. This process prevents bone loss and creates a rock-solid foundation for your new smile.
A complete implant system actually consists of three separate parts. The metal post serves as the stable root hidden below your gum line. Next, your doctor attaches a small connector piece, called an abutment, directly on top of the post. Finally, they place a custom-made crown over the connector to blend in perfectly with your surrounding teeth. Together, these pieces fully restore your ability to chew comfortably and speak clearly without the slipping that often happens with traditional dentures.
